The Minas Basin

Minas View Golf Links is a 9 hole course with some of the most spectacular views in the province.
Each hole offers is own special view of the Minas Basin with Cape Blomidon, Nova Scotia in the background.
There are many spectacular views of the world famous Bay of Fundy tides.
These are the highest tides in the world. If you play 18 holes you probably will see most of the change of these tides. In this area they raise and fall 45 ft twice a day.
Even though this is a smaller course it offers all golfers some interesting challenges.
The course offers 5 par 3's and 4 par 4's and is easy walking on rolling hills.
It's too bad that hole #8 couldn't have been at the end of the course. It offers a real challenge of hitting the green in one stroke This requires a 146 yard drive to carry a deep ravine and the Ocean below.
If you miss this one your ball is gone. Don't think that hole 9 is an easy one.
It ends with a fairly steep incline from the stream to the green. All the holes have their own little secrets.

Of course there is an alternative

A brief history of The Minas View Golf Links
Minas View Golf Links was first opened in 1967 by Charlie Smith and his brother in law, Lloyd Baird.
These two got interested in golf by watching it on TV. They began playing using a tin can on
the front lawn.
The back pasture seemed an ideal to built a real golf course. Lloyd was the behind this idea and Charlie at first thought that Lloyd was a bit of a dreamer but he was just being optimistic and he convinced Charlie that it would work.
Lloyd predicted that the day would come when the course would take in over $100 a day. Remember green fees were $1.25 for 18 holes.
When Charlie Smith passed away in 1988 the course was left to his nephew Joe Smith and his niece Paige Smith.
Upon Paige's untimely passing in 1997 Joe became sole owner.
The course had been leased to Barry Wilson and remained so up until 2004 when both Joe and his wife Twyla retired from their careers and moved back home. They took over running Minas View and Barry stayed on as greens keeper.
From the very beginning Minas View Golf Links was known for it magnificent views of the Minas Basin and the worlds highest tides.
We have been told by many golfers from around the world that our views are second to none.
It just something that has to be seen to believed.
The name "Minas View Golf Links" came from the official name of the Charlie's farm, Minas View Farm.
On a final note, Joe and Twyla are please to see Lloyd and Charlie's prediction of $100 days surpassed.

Hole # 1 Tee off    154 yards Par 3
 Hole # 1 green
This hole overlooks a water hazard filled with sparkling
goldfish. The green is small but straightaway and it's
a great way to begin the round.

Hole # 2 Tee off    305 Yards Par 4
Hole # 2 green
This hole is the mystery hole because the green is
hidden by a slight elevation: Always aim on the
high side to approach the slopping green.

 Hole # 3 Tee off   166 yards Par 3
 Hole # 3 green
Hole number 3 needs an accurate shot. There is
little room for error. The rolling fairway can cause
some grief just before the green.

Hole # 4 Tee off  343 Yards Par 4
Hole # 4 green
This is one of the toughest holes on the course. Wide fairway
for 250 yards and narrows with a large spruce tree directly in
front of the green about 100 yards out.
Stay away from the edge of the green because it's
200 feet straight down to the beach.

 Hole # 5 Tee off    175 Yards Par 3
 Hole # 5 green
This hole is on a downward slope with the Minas Basin
on the immediate right. Avoid the right side at all costs.
This hole can easily turn into a nightmare if you loose
your concentration.

Hole # 6 Tee off    380 Yards Par 4
Hole # 6 green
This hole offers a wide open fairway with lots of
opportunity for the large driver. Excellent green and a
sand trap to the right offers every golfer a challenge.

Hole # 7 Tee off    130 Yards Par 3
Hole # 7 green
This hole can be difficult but not impossible. A good 8, 9 or
wedge shot makes this hidden green worth the price of
admission. The green is sloped towards the Minas Basin
and the view upon reaching the hole is spectacular.

Hole # 8 Tee off   146 Yards Par 3
 Hole # 8 green
This is the most contested hole on the course. There
are choices here: it is to follow the fence line and dog leg
right to the green or challenge the Minas Basin and straight
away to the green over the cliff to a beautiful green for par.
Most golfers will want to take this route all the time
thinking they are at Pebble Beach.

Getting across the gorge can present some interesting challenges

Hole # 9 Tee off    360 Yards Par 4
Hole # 9 green
This hole really should be a par five; only because Brian
has yet to make par for this year or last. It's a sharp dog
leg and up the hill to the best green on the course
is always a challenge
