About Minas View Golf Links

Minas View Golf Links opened in 1967 after it was cut by Charlie Smith from the fields of a farm which had by then been in the Smith family for more than a century.

The course was purchased in late 2010 by a few local golf enthusiasts.  The decision to purchase the golf course necessarily arose when then owner, Joseph (Joey) Smith, opted for a more quiet retirement and did not expect to reopen the course for the 2011 golf season.  At that time, the decision to purchase became obvious for the benefit of the community.

At present, Minas View Golf Links is a nine hole, par 31, golf course.  The course plays four par 4 holes and five par 3 holes. The holes alternate the par challenges until holes 7 and 8 play back-to-back par 3′s. The game ends on the par 4 No. 9, which requires close thought as to one’s first shot.

When the weather finally broke in March, 2011, work began on the grounds of Minas View to prepare the course for the 2011 golf season.  The first maintenance priority was to address the course’s tee boxes and greens.  Work is ongoing on both priorities, but will take some time. The work is not expected to interfere with normal play on the course.  Time and sun will be appreciated.

Minas View Golf Links has also already commenced the first stages of its larger future expansions. Design has been completed on major changes to be made to both holes No.3 and 4. Hole No.3 will be lengthened to play as a Par 4. The new green will be located 315 yards from the existing tee, lying on the far bank of the North Pond.  The new No.3 fairway will be mowed well short of the North Pond, while the green side of the pond will only be rough mowed up the hill, except for an abbreviated landing fairway area along the green’s sloped front.

The North Pond will be serviced to accommodate the new No.3 hole configuration.  Beyond the cleaning of the Pond, a new Water Management System will be installed to preserve and enhance the Pond both for the local wildlife and to provide the majority of the water requirements for the Course.  The remainder of the water course, beyond the North Pond, including the Fairway Pond and the Lower Creek, are scheduled for cleaning and grade work as will be required.

Hole No.4 will be lengthened to become a 521 yard, white knuckle, dog leg right, Par 5.  Cutting has already commenced on the new 155 yard fairway section required to connect the new Tee Box to the existing No.4 fairway.  The new fairway will play directly over the old No.4 Tee Box, which will become the new No.4, Women’s Tee Box.

Access to the new No.3 Green and No.4 Tee Box will be by a pathway constructed along the edge of the North Pond.  That new pathway is now under construction.  When completed, the pathway will offer a short walk through a beautiful, calm, wooded area, seasonally filled with birds of many species and offering a brief respite from the usual turmoils of one’s game.

On completion of the present expansion project Minas View Golf Links will be a Par 33 Course.  It will feature both the new, monster, Par 5, Hole No.4, and, of course, Hole No.8, with it’s enticement to shot the 146 yard gorge out over the Basin rather than play safely around on the fairway.

Stay in touch to follow the progress of our expansions and then come on down and see it happen.
